Let’s Plant Trees

Felix Finkbeiner aims to restore the world’s forest. Once he said “If you let a monkey choose if he wants one banana now or six bananas later, the monkey will always chose the one banana now,”. “From this, we children understood we can not trust that adults alone will save our future. To do that, we have to take our future in our hands.”

From the start, PT Goldteak has involved children in Cibening village to participate in protecting the environment. From an early age, students have been introduced to Green Project activities. Even though they are not required to plant and expect results, planting activities are introduced and taught so that they become habits for these children until they are adults.

Planting activities are made into a fun activity, children learn how the process of growing a seed into seedling and grow into useful plant or tree.

More Books for Students

“A book is like a garden carried in the pocket” Arabian proverb. Books are full of beauty, wonder and amazement and when you tend to it, it will grow and fluorish, much like garden.

Interesting books for young children are books that contain information and colorful pictures. They want to know what was written on the pages. For children who can read, of course, the information written on the page will trigger their curiosity about things related to the information and also the pictures on the pages of the book.

Every child’s imagination is different, according the age and cognitive abilities, the ability to think and to behave. They begin to build these abilities more quickly when we assist them by providing useful information for their intelligence.

Almost every month, PT Goldteak provides knowledge books for children in Cibening village, especially for students at Cibeureum Elementary School.

Seed Trees for Students

There is a saying “your habits will determine your future” (Jack Canfield). Good habits must be accustomed from childhood so that when they grow up good things will be easy to do.

Elementary school students at Cibeureum have been introduced to the habit of planting since they started going to school, even since they have not yet attended school, they have seen their older siblings plant trees at school and at home.

They started to plant fast-growing, flowering and fruitful trees, such as chilies, tomatoes, vegetables or also flowering shrubs.

When they received seeds from the school donated by PT Goldteak, they plant them together. Sometimes the trees they plant will live but sometimes they can die. They plant trees happily, and when the tree they planted dies, they don’t need to be sad because they will receive another seed.

The planting experience will continue with the questions and they will give to their teachers at school, and they will learn from experience, not just from books or online media. Plant a tree and plant hope for future. (daily quote)

Planting Vegetables in Polybags

At the end of 2022, students were given the challenge of planting vegetables in polybags. PT Goldteak donated mustard green, tomato, chilly seeds, polybags and planting media/fertilizer to students grade 3, 4, 5 and grade 6.

The teacher gave examples of how to grow vegetables in polybags and how to care for these plants until they are harvested. The students in groups happily tried together. Starting to distribute polybags, planting media and seeds, who would get mustard seeds and who would plant tomatoes and chilies. After finishing, students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 brought their polybags home, they had to take care their own plants.

After two months, mustard greens can be harvested, tomatoes and chilies bear fruit after two or three months. The students were impatient and when the plants could be harvested, and they could harvest the vegetables together.

Ibu Ika, one of the teachers, apologized because the last harvest was done at school, students, teachers and parents harvested together and the vegetables were taken home by their mothers. She said all people were happy, especially students, they were proud because they planted the vegetables successfully.

Last week, students and their teachers started to plant again. Gardening is fun, students are taught and given examples how to plant vegetables or plant any trees. One day, the students will have a good habit and understand why they have to plant trees and keep their environment clean and green.

World Tree Day

World Planting Day is a day to celebrate the planting trees and plants. It is celebrated every year as a a day to get more people involve in planting. The goal of World Planting Day is to plant as many trees and plants as possible in order to help fight climate change and global warming.

This year, not only students but also villagers are invited to plant trees. This activity actually not just for planting trees, but this activity aims to build a habit of planting trees for the environment. If no one plants trees, it is certain that every part of the earth will experience drought or erosion and flooding will occur, because there are no trees that can hold rainwater.

To support environmental conservation programs, PT Goldteak also provide and donates plant seeds to students to develop planting habists. Students can plant any tree, fruit trees, big trees or just plant shrubs and flowers. They can plant in the yard or the house or school with family or friends.

Go to School

SD Cibeureum is located in the middle of the village. Every day the students go to school on foot, their houses are not far from the school, usually they go together with classmates or friends who live in the same area.

Before they go to school, they always have breakfast at home. Their breakfast is simple, rice with omelet or boiled sweet potato and cassava. They never drink milk, only the babies drink milk. Usually they drink water or hot sweet tea. They never bring lunch to school because they go home before lunch time.

The condition of the road is till not good, rocky dirt road. It is dusty during the hot season and slippery when during rainy season. Sometimes they take off their shoes and put them back on when they arrive at school.

Students are always happy to go to school every day, because they will read story books during the break.
